Wayne Rooney has taken Birmingham from a play-off push to a relegation scrap... his appointment looks more and more dubious. This may be as low as it gets but he needs wins, and fast

Wayne Rooney tries to secure his only his third win as Birmingham manager on Friday with the club's decision to hire him looking more questionable with every passing defeat.

A change of direction now, barely two months after Rooney was brought in with Blues in the play-off spots, would feel like a panic move and mean a huge loss of face on all sides. But simply crossing fingers and toes that results will improve does not feel a solid option either.

Chief executive officer Garry Cook, remember, sacked John Eustace to bring in Rooney in October, when Blues were sixth in the Championship.
